Where and what is Sanday? The island of Sanday is one of the outer Orkney Islands which lie off the northern coast of Scotland. The main town on Orkney is Kirkwall, and Sanday is about one and a half hours ferry crossing from this port. Sanday is served by a small passenger plane and by ferries which call at the island twice a day. Our island is relatively flat and very sandy, with glorious beaches that stretch for miles when the tide is out. About 500 people currently live on the island and Sanday Community School is very much at the centre of many island activities. For more general detail about the island, please visit the Sanday Website by clicking on this link. A few sights around our island can be seen below. |
